For me, it depends on what I'm writing. Certain things require silence, or at most, instrumental music playing softly in the background. Other thoughts carry me away with them and the world around me fades on its own.
With artwork though, I usually have something playing in the background. Maybe because it helps shut up the tiny voice in my head that says "how dare you call yourself an artist". Maybe I haven't learned to trust the craft myself yet, like I have with writing. Maybe part of me is scared to.
Whatever the reason, your words resonated and I have played them on repeat in my head for several hours now. I appreciate your reminder that the journey through the pages is part of the process and sometimes it needs to be the focus or you won't hear it at all.
